Trevor Moawad was a sports performance consultant and mental training expert who passed away on September 15, 2021. He acted as a performance coach but, most importantly, a friend for many high-level athletes. One of Trevor’s signature sayings was, “it takes what it takes.” Moawad believed that in any situation in life and, more specifically, in sports, people must be able to make the conscious decision to do whatever it takes to be successful. He preached to athletes that if you truly have it within you to succeed, you will do what it takes to accomplish that. Trevor is and will always be a prominent figure in the philosophy that represents The Varsity Chronicle.

Moreover, when often addressing athletes, Trevor would say, “if you say you are what you are, I am who I am… that is a statement of total surrender.” Trevor believed in seeking and helping athletes find the greatness that lies within them. He never accepted complacencies on any level, especially in those he worked closest. He never expected complacency in his own life. Upon being diagnosed with cancer, Trevor decided to keep his diagnosis private as not to create any distractions or attract any attention to himself he deemed “unnecessary.” Trevor has had a significant influence on all athletes who have worked with him, starting with Nick Saban at LSU in 2002 to Russell Wilson most recently. Trevor’s philosophy still echoes in today’s society and will continue to do so long after his passing. While being one of the most powerful forces in sports mental coaching, his humility changed mindsets and lives forever. We thank Trevor for his example and what he did to contribute to creating a more conscious athlete. Trevor Moawad was 48.
